WHO ARE WE?
Our Story
With about 20 years experience in the food business, our specialty is chicken braais. We always had friends and family asking for some of our special home made marinade. After someone pointed out that although they had looked in the stores there just wasn’t anything on the market that hit the spot like our marinade did, we started experimenting with bigger quantities and The Portuguese Marinade was born.
Starting off with supplying small restaurants and local supermarkets the sauce has quickly grown in popularity and is now available in some of the major chain stores and used by many restaurants and housewives alike. It is a very versatile sauce, full of flavour with just a touch of bite. It can be used on all meats, chicken, fish & shell fish. You can braai with it, grill, roast or cook with it. You are only limited by your imagination.
This marinade will take your taste buds on a trip to Portugal, right from the comfort of your own home.
About Our Sauce
There are no secrets on how to make a delicious Portuguese dish, just follow these simple steps and enjoy a mouth watering meal. To marinate any type of meat or fish, be it chicken, steak, pork, prawns, calamari etc. (We refer to meat but it can be anything.)
- Place whatever you are marinating in a dish, shake the bottle of marinade well, then pour generously over your meat.
- Use about 100ml per 1kg of meat.
- Once this is done, mix the meat in your dish with the marinade ensuring all the meat is nicely coated. The marinade already has salt so DO NOT add any more salt or spices as your meat could end up too salty.
- Allow your meat to soak for at least 15 minutes. The longer you leave it in the marinade the stronger the flavour will be.
- When you are ready to fry, grill or braai, take your meat OUT of the marinade and fry, grill or braai as you would normally do.
- Should you wish to add extra flavour to your meal, take a brush and baste whilst cooking.
- When making a stew or anything else cooked in a pot, add about a ¼ cup of marinade to your normal recipe to add flavour.
